Dr. Putter grew up in Suffern, NY and graduated from Vassar College with a BA in Neuroscience. After graduation, his interest in medicine lead him to work at a shark research lab on the island of Bimini and practice medical and surgical management of large game animals in South Africa. Returning two years later to the United States with all of his fingers intact, despite some scars, he soon married his wife Rebecca, a long time college girlfriend after ten years of dating (she thought it was about time).
Now with a predilection for island life, Dr. Putter applied and was accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. The school’s unique hands on approach to veterinary medicine provided him with extensive exposure to all types of small and large animal surgery, medicine and general husbandry. Having the opportunity to perform numerous spays, neuters as well as life saving surgery on the overpopulated domestic species on the island, Dr. Putter honed his surgical skills prior to graduation. This set the stage for his current passion for soft tissue surgery, dermatology and ultrasound. Dr. Putter completed his year of veterinary clinical rotations at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Putter has practiced in a number of busy small animal hospitals in New York and Connecticut and found his clientele were requesting a higher level of personalized care and attention than they were able to find. Having always dreamt of being a small business owner like his father, Dr. Putter founded Spot On Veterinary in 2015 to provide concierge in home veterinary care. Dr. Putter has always been focused on treating each animal with the utmost care, patience and most importantly as an individual and now he is able to treat each of his patients with the highest level of medicine and customer service as if they were his own.
Dr. Putter currently lives in Nyack, New York with his wife, Rebecca; son Hudson; and two rescue dogs Ticket and Mini.
